Breast and Women’s Imaging Service in Miami, Florida

All tests performed at Midtown Women’s Center are digital. The addition of CAD in mammography significantly increases the accuracy rate of test results. Research conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) has shown that Digital Mammography is a valuable diagnostic tool for women under age 50, pre- or perimenopausal women, and women with dense breasts.

3D Mammography, clinically known as, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), is a new cutting edge technology that uses low dose x-rays at multiple angles to acquire information that can create a 3D image of the breast. Capturing the additional 3D images only adds a few seconds to the exam time. This exciting technology has been shown to lower the need for additional mammogram images and can increase the sensitivity for detecting early breast cancers, especially in patients with dense breasts.

What is a 3D mammography breast exam?

3D mammography is a revolutionary new screening and diagnostic tool designed for early breast cancer detection that can be done in conjunction with a traditional 2D digital mammogram. During the 3D part of the exam, the X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over your breast, taking multiple breast images. Then, a computer produces a 3D image of your breast tissue in one millimeter slices, providing greater visibility for the radiologist to see breast detail in a way never before possible. They can scroll through images of your entire breast like pages of a book. The additional 3D images make it possible for a radiologist to gain a better understanding of your breast tissue during screening, significantly improving early breast cancer detection and providing the confidence to reduce the need for follow-up imaging by up to 40%.

Percutaneous core biopsies can be performed using mammogram or ultrasound guidance. These procedures are quick, accurate, and minimally invasive. These biopsies are performed in the comfort of our center with little discomfort to the patient. Personal notification of biopsy results are provided to you in 48 to 72 hours.

Ultrasounds

Breast ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the breast in real time. This noninvasive procedure in conjunction with mammography can increase breast cancer detection, especially in dense-breasted patients. Breast ultrasounds are painless and do not use radiation like other imaging exams.

An abdominal ultrasound is typically used to detect a number of medical issues including gallbladder and pancreatic diseases.

If you have pain or swelling in your leg, an ultrasound can help determine whether or not you have a venous blockage. Few people feel any discomfort during the procedure which usually takes no more than 30 minutes.

The thyroid is the gland in the neck that regulates your metabolism. This particular test can detest abnormal growth in the thyroid gland including cysts and thyroid nodules.

Pelvic ultrasound is a noninvasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves (non-ionizing radiation) to create images of the structures and organs within the lower abdomen and pelvis. The procedure also includes transabdominal and transvaginal (when appropriate) approaches. In preparation for this exam, you will be asked to drink water to distend the bladder for optimal visualization of the pelvic contents.

There was no wait. I was seen immediately after completing paperwork. I loved having my information already pre-populated on the form. I might be a repeat customer.
